Glossary and Orientation GuideActivity CenterThe Activity Center is a separate building across the parking lot from the church (south of church). This building is used for most activities for children and older students. Other big events are held there also. The building has a gym, classrooms, and a kitchen. Cafe, Crossroads CafeCrossroads Caf is an event. It is after most Sunday services down in the Fellowship Hall. Coffee, pastries, and other food and drinks are served. Occasionally there are displays or booths to help you learn about a ministry or opportunity. There are tables and chairs available. Talk with someone you know or meet someone new! Everyone is welcome. ChapelThis is separate from the main sanctuary. The chapel room is on the west end of the church. It is at the end of the hallway past the restrooms and nursery. Fellowship HallThis large room is in the church basement. The easiest way to get there is the stairs in the lobby. The stairs are next to the library, east of the main entrance doors (right coming into the church, left as you leave the sanctuary). Information CenterThis booth is located in the church lobby area. It is by the windows. Brochures, sign-up sheets, free literature, and other goodies can be found there. LobbyThe church entrance area goes by many names. You may also hear it called entrance, narthex, foyer, and other terms. Generically, it is the place inside the main doors where you hang your coat, visit, and get information. MinistryMinistries are also known as programs, services, activities, etc. Ministries at Crossroads are categorized two ways:
On a human level, it may appear that "ministry" is just a fancy way of describing a group of activities or emphasis, or even a "target audience" - just like any organization or department. But, for many, the motivation for ministry goes deeper. They feel their involvement and service in a ministry is fulfilling their role or purpose God desires for them at this time. This is sometimes referred to as a "calling". So ministry is more than just a job or volunteer work. It has purpose. For some, it is obedience. And it is a privilege to take part in God's work. SanctuaryThis is the big room where we have our Sunday worship services. Business meetings and other activities also take place there. StudentAs used at Crossroads, the term "student" applies to children in grades 7-12. Their information is under the Student Ministries category. Information for younger children is in Children's Ministries. |
